Some people have too much free time

I don't like watching the news. I find it generally boring, and local news is mostly about stuff I really don't care about. But I feel like I should have a clue what is happening in the news. So I figured that I should at least have an idea of what the big issues of the day are. So I get the NY Times headlines every morning. But sometimes I don't get a chance to read them. Or they are not particularly exciting. So I make sure every night I get my headlines...from Jon Stewart. I know, I know: what am I thinking? See, I know Jon Stewart is a comedian. And that the Daily Show is not a news show. But it does show news. And I can then go look up stuff I find interesting.

I tell you all of this because this brings me to people with too much free time. See, there are apparently people out there who have decided that they need to fight about christmas. No, I am not talking about the people who were beaten to death on Black Friday. I am talking about the people who decided that they are annoyed with stores saying "Happy Holidays" and not "Merry Christmas." Now, I know that the majority of Americans celebrate Christmas (or I assume they do.) But folks, as many of us enlightened people (read: people who have functioning brains, and who have ever seen television) know that there is more then one holiday in December. And since greeting every person with 3 different holiday greetings seems a bit silly, I like "Happy Holidays". Imagine that, me liking something PC and not just tollerating it. Huh. Ah well. Happy Holidays!

Christmas is coming...

And don't we love alllll the advertising? Now, don't get me wrong, I love christmas. I look forward to setting up my tree every year. And I loooooooove getting and even giving presents. But Christmas is about family (or it was supposed to be.) I get to see my aunt, and my entire family is under one roof for the evening. I love everything about christmas. Except advertising. I don't really mind christmas ads (and I love chrismas sales.) But must the "christmas season" start the day after HALLOWEEN? I mean, it used to be after thanksgiving. But there were stores with christmas stuff up way over a month ago. I think I am on Saint Nick overload.
