Another day, another dollar.  Work is still insane, clients still cry, others don't listen.  Occasionally they listen, and then life is grand.  I have one client who crys and trys to get me to do things, and always says "God Bless Katrina" in the middle of her conversations.  I think she says it to try to get me to feel bad about not doing stuff for her.  It is like a bizarre reverse psychology thing.  It will not work, as I have no heart for clients anymore.  Yes, I want to help them, and yes, I do my best to win as much as I can for them, but I am rapidly becoming desensitized to the emotions that go with the cases.  "There's no crying in divorce law!" I shout, knowing there is, but being frustrated by people who cry and won't help themselves.  Grrr.... as we sometimes like to say, the law would be much if we didn't have clients to screw it up.

On a different note, thanks to my wonderful friend Claire, I got to spend the evening hanging out with the Dems at an invite only party.  And, since I was helping a bit as a staffer, I got to meet people.  Like Brian McNight, Alec Baldwin, Steve Busheme (I have no idea how to spell his name), Eliot Spitzer, a bunch of senators and congressmen, and, best of all, I got to shake hands and talk briefly with Rev. Al Sharpton.  Yes, I know I am ridiculous, but frankly, when would I normally have this chance?  :-)

Have you ever had one of those days at work where you know you have stuff you should be doing, but you really really really don't feel like doing it? Today was one of those days for me. My shoulders are a bit sore (since I was on the Charles kayaking all weekend.) And I did all the "pressing" stuff when I first came in. so I don't have anything with a tomorrow-like deadline, and my brain basically turned into lime jello. Or maybe blue raspberry. Mmmmmm....jello....

Anyway, so I managed to force myself to make a bunch of phone calls on one of my cases, and luckly got a lot of people's voicemail, so I spent the rest of the day doing silly little things like organizing my desk while talking to all of these lovely people as they called me back. I wish every day was this inane, since my brain is happy it got to be jello, and my shoulders got to rest (not like being a lawyer person is all that straining on the shoulders generally, but it was less straining none-the-less.)

So in my avoidance of work today, I was uploading a bunch of CDs to my work computer (so I don't have to listen to everyone else on the phone...) In the process of looking for the song list for one of my CDs, I stubled upon the Last Call webpage. For those of you not familiar with Last Call, they are a VERY funny A Capella group from Cornell, whose antics on stage made their concerts a must see, in my book. As I perused their webpage, I found that they put most of their first CD, Vested Interest, on the page as mp3s! This made me happy, as my copy of that cd is getting very worn, and refuses to rip properly on my computer! So, if you are interested in a little blast from my Cornell past, check them out here.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled boredom...

As I search the City of Boston webpage for ISD information, I stumble across a section about different neighborhoods of Boston. Since my area is still part of Boston, we get our own little blurb. Upon reading it, I was throughly amused, so I thought I would share:

Once home to stockyards, slaughterhouses and meatpacking industries, Allston today is a thriving mecca of activity. Largely populated by students and young families, Allston caters to the individual looking for something different-and cheap. It's hard to turn a corner in this neighborhood without running into a discount furniture or thrift store. Allston's Harvard Ave. boasts everything from upscale eateries and pool halls to local dives and mom-and-pop grocery stores. There's rarely a quiet moment in this neighborhood-everyone from students to the elderly traverse the streets of Allston through all hours of the day and night.

Ah, my little ghetto....
