An Esquire forever more...

I got sworn in on Monday. Well, I got sworn into the Massachusetts Bar on Monday (NY is a long time off...) The ceremony was in the Great Hall of Faneuil Hall, which is upstairs of the shopping area. The ceremony was massivily disorganized at the beginning, but once we were in the hall itself, the ceremony was kinda cool. There is something to be said for being sworn into the oldest bar in the country. To swearing loyality to the oldest consititution in the country (Mass was in existance before the US constitution.) And to becoming a lawyer. I know lawyers take a lot of flak from people because we are (fill in your favorite lawyer insult here). But our MC, Head Clerk of the Mass Supreme Court, was right: becoming a lawyer is not just a job. You are entering a profession that affects you for life. You swear to uphold the Constitution, of the state you practice in and of the country. You swear to act in an ethical manner, not just in your practice, but in your life (because you can get disbarred not just for your actions in practice, but in your regular life as well.) And you become an officer of the court, to uphold the rights of truth justice and the american way (whatever that is at the time.)

Yeah, it is a bit hokey. Deal with it. I am actually kinda proud I am a lawyer. K.D. Esq. is here, and let's see what I can do now.
